KONVOY in Motion: Laying the Groundwork for Seamless Roadtrip Communication

We’re kicking things off with some modest but exciting numbers to share:

  These signups have come exclusively from our initial social media posts. We haven’t tapped into in-person events, collaborations, or broader campaigns yet, but it’s great to see some early interest purely from online engagement.

While 5 might seem like a small number, it represents the first steps of something bigger. Every startup begins here, and these are the people who will help shape KONVOY into something truly valuable. We’re looking forward to experimenting with other outreach methods, like attending local car meetups or overlanding events, to grow this list in the coming weeks.

What’s Been Done & What’s Next

✅ Recently Completed:

This past week was all about setting the foundation, which is often unglamorous but absolutely essential for the success of any app. Here’s what we accomplished:

• Repo Setup: We established the Git repository and integrated CI/CD pipelines. Having this automated setup means smoother development cycles and faster iteration down the road.
• Anonymous Authentication: To get users into the app quickly without friction, we implemented a basic authentication layer. This will make onboarding simple for our early users while we build out more robust account features in the future.
• App Theming: We created a consistent design theme to ensure the app feels polished from day one. A unified aesthetic is key to making KONVOY feel like a premium experience for our users.
• Navigation Layout: With the core navigation structure in place, it’s easy to imagine how the app will flow as we layer in more features.

These might sound like small wins, but collectively they create the scaffolding for everything else that follows. Now that these foundational tasks are complete, we’re ready to dive into more exciting functionality.

🚧 In Progress:

We’re currently in the middle of a VOIP proof of concept (POC), which is a major piece of functionality for KONVOY. This will allow drivers to stay connected while on the road, creating a seamless way to communicate in real-time during rallies or overlanding trips.

Here’s what we’ve accomplished so far:

• The basic VOIP setup using GetStream.io is up and running. The core functionality is there, but we’re now refining it to deliver the smooth, intuitive experience we envision.

Next steps include:

• Designing and implementing a pop-over speaking UI, so users can see who’s talking without losing focus on their primary navigation tasks.
• Testing background audio playback, ensuring users can stay in the call while switching apps or playing music during a trip.

This feature is a cornerstone of KONVOY, and we’re putting in the effort to get it right. Once this POC is complete, we’ll be in a great position to start integrating VOIP into the broader app experience.

How We’re Feeling

This week has been a mix of excitement and productivity. Over the weekend, I found myself in a solid groove. Saturday was a full day of heads-down development, and on Sunday, I made my way to Starbucks to change up the scenery. There’s something about being in a bustling café that helps me focus—it’s like tapping into the collective energy of everyone around me.

Side projects like this are always a balancing act. With a full-time job during the week, most of the work for KONVOY happens in the evenings or on weekends. It’s not always easy to find the time or the energy, but the progress we’ve made so far is incredibly motivating. Seeing the app come to life, even in its earliest stages, is a reminder of why we’re doing this: to create something that will genuinely enhance the driving experience for rally and overlanding enthusiasts.

Moments like this also underscore how important it is to celebrate small wins. Every piece of progress, no matter how minor it might seem, is a step closer to bringing KONVOY to life. It’s a marathon, not a sprint, but the journey so far has been deeply rewarding.
