From completing the VOIP POC to tackling the challenges of custom route planning with Mapbox, this week’s progress lays the groundwork for KONVOY's future. Plus, our first content article is live—helping us reach car enthusiasts everywhere!

Current KPIs

Momentum is picking up, and it’s exciting to see more people interested in Konvoy! Here’s where things stand:

  • Waitlist signups: 9 🚀 (up 4 from last week)

What’s noteworthy here is that all of our signups so far have come from social media posts alone. This means the message is resonating with the car enthusiast community, even with minimal outreach.

While it’s still early, seeing steady growth gives us confidence that there’s demand for what we’re building. In the coming weeks, we’ll explore in-person events, collaborations, and targeted campaigns to scale the waitlist even further.

What’s Been Done & What’s Next

✅ Recently Completed:

This week saw some exciting progress on multiple fronts. Here’s what we accomplished:

  • VOIP Proof of Concept: Using GetStream.io, we implemented core functionality for real-time communication:

    • Created a custom pop-over UI to show who’s speaking in a call, ensuring a distraction-free user experience.
    • Tested and confirmed background audio support, so users can listen to music while remaining in a voice chat room.
  • First Non-Dev Log Article: To kickstart our SEO efforts and attract organic traffic, we published our first content piece outside of development updates:
“Must-Attend US Car Shows in 2025”.
This article highlights some of the best car shows happening across the US next year, catering to the interests of our target audience of car enthusiasts and rally drivers.
Writing content like this not only helps improve search engine rankings but also positions Konvoy as a brand that understands and supports the car enthusiast community. We’re looking forward to producing more articles like this in the coming months!

Completing these tasks was a big win for the week. Together, they move us closer to our vision for Konvoy while also laying the groundwork for long-term growth through content marketing.

🚧 In Progress:

Next up is the Route Planning and Mapbox proof of concept (POC), which has presented some unique challenges. This feature is critical for Konvoy, as it will allow users to plan routes, see other vehicles, and navigate seamlessly during their trips. However, implementing it has been more complex than anticipated.

Here’s the problem: Mapbox offers two Flutter packages, each with trade-offs:

  • The official package (mapbox_maps_flutter) allows full customization of the map but doesn’t include built-in turn-by-turn navigation.
  • The unofficial package (flutter_mapbox_navigation) provides pre-built navigation functionality but lacks customization options, like the ability to show other vehicles on the map.

Ultimately, I’ve decided to use the official package and build a custom turn-by-turn navigation system from scratch. While this approach requires more time and effort, it offers significant advantages:

  • Customization: We can fully control the map’s appearance and functionality, ensuring it aligns with Konvoy’s vision.
  • Flexibility: By not relying on a pre-built system, we won’t be limited by the constraints of an SDK that may not meet all of our needs.

The downside, of course, is that this will slow us down in the short term. Building a custom navigation system means developing the UI, handling route state management, and integrating with Mapbox APIs. It’s a significant workload, but it’s the right choice for creating a feature-rich, scalable app.

How We’re Feeling

This week has been a mix of highs and lows. Completing the VOIP POC felt like a big win—it was a smooth process, and the final result works exactly as we envisioned. It’s always encouraging when things fall into place like that.

On the other hand, hitting roadblocks with Mapbox has been frustrating. Choosing to build our own navigation system was a tough decision, but I’m confident it will pay off in the long run. It’s just one of those moments where progress feels slower than I’d like, but it’s all part of the process when building something new.

What keeps me optimistic is the growing excitement around Konvoy. The waitlist continues to grow without heavy outreach, which is a great validation of the concept. I’ve also had conversations with car enthusiasts who immediately understood the need for this app. Hearing their enthusiasm and ideas reminds me why we’re building Konvoy and pushes me to keep going, even when challenges arise.

I’m also excited about the potential of content marketing to bring more visibility to Konvoy. Writing our first non-dev log article felt like a meaningful step in broadening the brand’s reach. As we produce more content that appeals to the car enthusiast community, I’m hopeful we’ll attract not just users but also potential partners who see the value in what we’re building.
